A joint NGO and UN photo exhibition has been launched in honour of World Humanitarian Day, observed for the first time this year on 19 August. The photographs illustrate the wide spectrum of humanitarian work taking place in the Sudan.

The exhibition is intended to shed light on humanitarian and development work, and to celebrate the partnership between Sudanese communities and humanitarian and development agencies working to help improve life for the people of Sudan. It includes images from all parts of the country – north, south, east and west – and spans a period from the 1970s to the present.

Various non‐governmental organizations and UN agencies have submitted images from their archives, bringing an up‐close view of work that is often unseen by the general public. Evident in the photos is Sudan’s rich cultural and geographical diversity, as well as the spirit of cooperation at the heart of humanitarian action.

In order to reach a wider audience, a print version of the exhibition will be launched later this year.
